Panthers center and locker room prankster Ryan Kalil had a little fun at teammate Cam Newton’s expense on Monday.
Kalil, the team’s two-time All-Pro center, released a hilarious parody of the birthday vacation video Newton posted out on Instagram page last month. The video featured many of the team’s offensive linemen and tight end Greg Olsen mimicking Newton’s moves. While the background scenery may not have been quite as picturesque as Newton’s video in Costa Rico, Kalil thought the overall production was a big success and came at a much cheaper cost.
Kalil said he filmed the entire video on his IPhone during the O-line’s annual camping trip at Lake Toxaway in North Carolina.
“We got some inspiration so we thought we would put a little video out,” Kalil said with a grin. “… He is the leader of the team, so we are just trying to follow in his footsteps.”
Kalil showed the video to the rest of the team before Monday morning’s workout and said Newton had a good laugh.

“See, I told him too, he spends all of that money on those videographers and I just did it all on my IPhone,” Kalil said. “I told him, ‘You should have invited me on your trip, man. You are getting robbed. I could have saved you some cash.”
Newton wasn’t available to talk to the media on Monday.
Rivera said the video Newton posted, which included him spiking a ball, was actually filmed last year before his injury.
“Cam loved it and he’s trying to hire Ryan away as his new videographer, so we’ll see,” Rivera said.
