Mike Mularkey’s job could be in jeopardy, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Tennessee Titans coach is on the hot seat.
According to Rapoport, a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Saturday’s wild-card game could lead to the Titans decision to fire Mularkey and make a run at Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel’s.
Mularkey stepped in as interim coach when the Titans fired Ken Whisenhunt in 2015. Tennessee took off
the interim tag shortly after that season.
The uncertainty comes despite Mularkey leading the Titans to back to back 9-7 seasons and their first playoff birth in 9 years. But, it also follows a two year stretch that saw the Titans go a 5-27. Plus, blowout losses to the Steelers and Texans, and a minus-22 point differential for the season have also clouded the vision of the Titans’ ceiling under Mularkey moving forward.
