During the third quarter of Sunday’s New York Jets at Tennessee Titans game things took a turn for the ugly and a few players should be informed by the league by the end of the week that they’ll be making donations to a couple of charities for the holidays.
Jets quarterback Geno Smith had just finished completing a long touchdown pass to receiver Eric Decker that was under review because he stepped out of bounds. While the play was being reviewed, Titans defensive end Jurrell Casey and Smith being jawing at each other.
As you saw in the video, Smith was punched by Casey, and that was all she wrote.
The melee escalated when Jets center Nick Mangold came to the aid of his quarterback. Some players even came off the Jets’ bench to create a mob of players at midfield.
There were no ejections and only one penalty flag was thrown on the play: an unnecessary roughness on Casey. The fight seemed to spark the Jets, and they rallied to beat the Titans 16-11 at LP Field in a sloppy game between two teams that began the day with 2-11 records.
